HikCentral Professional license price per camera, the VSS base license and HikCentral cost for 15 cameras

A HikCentral Professional license starts with the VSS base license, $120 at a US reseller for the server with no cameras, plus one camera license per channel: $59.88 to $78 for a Hikvision camera and $123.20 for a third party camera. Fifteen Hikvision cameras cost about $1,018 to $1,290 in licenses, once, with three years of software upgrades included. A third party camera license buys live view, playback and alarms, not Hikvision's person and vehicle analytics.

01 The short answer

Three numbers decide a HikCentral Professional order.

Prices are US reseller listings. HikCentral is sold through Hikvision partners, so your installer's quote can differ.

$120

VSS base license

One per server, with no cameras included. It carries the core video features, 100 concurrent users, virtual machine support and three years of free software upgrades.

$59.88 to $78

Per Hikvision camera

HikCentral-P-VSS-1Ch, one per channel, perpetual. A third party ONVIF camera takes the VSS-1Ch/3rdParty license instead, $123.20.

$1,018 to $1,290

Fifteen Hikvision cameras

Base plus fifteen camera licenses, once. A 32 camera and 4 door Unified Bundle lists at $1,227.28 and can beat it for larger sites.

What each HikCentral Professional license costs at US resellers.

Two US resellers list the full HikCentral range: Network Camera Store (listed, currently shown as unavailable) and Surveillance Video (in stock). Where both list a SKU, the range shows both.

The pre-loaded 16 channel base is not the cheap route it looks like. At these prices the empty base plus sixteen single camera licenses comes to $1,078 to $1,368, below the $1,669.60 promo SKU. The pack only pays at 64 channels and up, where $2,983 works out to about $46.61 a camera.

Watch out for the "$500 base and $4 a channel" figures that circulate in search answers. They come from grey market license shops, not Hikvision partners, and a key bought that way can be refused at activation or revoked later. Licenses are bound to the server's hardware, so a key that cannot be deactivated cleanly is a problem the day the server is replaced.

03 Which license to buy

Pick the HikCentral license by what is on the network today.

Every add-on needs a base license on the same server, and every camera, door or plate reader takes its own add-on.

01

All Hikvision, under 32 cameras

Buy the $120 base and one VSS-1Ch per camera. Past about 20 cameras, price the 32 camera Unified Bundle against it, especially if a door or two is coming.

About $68 to $86 a camera with the base.

02

Hikvision plus some other brands

Each non Hikvision camera takes the 3rdParty license at about $123. It records and alarms, but Hikvision analytics such as human and vehicle classification come from Hikvision devices, not from the server.

The mixed cameras cost more and do less.

03

64 cameras and up

The 64 channel base at $2,983 is about $46.61 a camera. Above 300, the 300 channel base is about $61.84 a camera, so compare it with adding singles to a 64.

Packs only pay at scale.

04

Several sites

Remote Site Management starts at $5,698.70 for two sites plus $779.95 or more per extra site, on top of each site's own licenses. It is a central console, not a recorder.

Budget it as a separate project.

04 Person detection in HikCentral

What a HikCentral camera license does not buy on older or third party cameras.

Diagram of five cameras recording to one VMS server, two sending person and vehicle events and three sending only pixel motion, with a detection layer labeling events from all five
One server records every camera, but the alarms are only as good as what each camera sends.

HikCentral treats detection as something the device does. AcuSense and DeepinView cameras and AcuSense NVRs send human and vehicle events, and HikCentral turns them into alarms. An older Hikvision camera sends pixel motion, and so does most third party hardware, so the same alarm center fires on headlights, shadows and rain for those channels.

The 3rdParty license confirms it in its own description: live view, playback and alarms. Face and body search is licensed per AcuSeek device channel at $348. Nothing in the license list adds person classification to video from a camera that cannot do it itself.

That is where we fit. Our person detection camera software reads the RTSP sub stream of each camera and labels every motion event the same way, whatever its brand or age, while HikCentral keeps recording.

05 Before you buy in the US

Hikvision rules a US business should check before adding licenses.

None of these stops a private business from running the Hikvision system it already owns. They matter for who may buy, and for what you can add later.

  1. 2019

    NDAA Section 889

Federal agencies, federal contractors and recipients of federal grants or loans may not buy or use Hikvision video equipment. If your company bids on federal work, this applies to your own offices too.

  2. 2021

    FCC covered list

Hikvision joined the FCC covered list in March 2021 for public safety, government facilities, critical infrastructure security and other national security uses.

  3. 2022

    No new FCC authorizations

Since November 2022 the FCC grants no new equipment authorizations to Hikvision, so new camera models cannot be authorized for the US market.

  4. 2026

    Import and marketing limits

A June 2026 FCC notice bars importing and marketing previously authorized models for the covered uses, and states it does not affect continued use of equipment already installed.

Several states, Florida and Indiana among them, also restrict Hikvision in state agencies. For a company that sells to government, the practical question is whether its own sites must be clean before the next bid, and teams that search and track federal contract opportunities usually find out at the representation stage. A detection layer that reads the streams is not Hikvision equipment and moves with you when the cameras are replaced.

Buy the HikCentral license if

you need more cameras recorded, or most of your cameras are recent AcuSense models whose own human and vehicle events are good enough. HikCentral licenses are cheap and perpetual, and nothing we sell records video. Buy the channels.

Add a detection layer if

the recording is fine and the alarms are the problem: older Hikvision or third party cameras sending pixel motion, a plan to replace Hikvision cameras over time without losing alert quality, or a team that wants events in Slack or a webhook. That is $49 a month for four cameras or $888 a year for fifteen.

07 How the detection half works

Classification on the streams HikCentral already records, with no second recorder.

01

Connect

Give it the RTSP URL of each camera, or let it find them over ONVIF. It reads the low resolution sub stream, so HikCentral keeps the main stream and the server load does not change.

02

Detect

Our own background model finds regions that really moved and joins them into events. Sensor noise, compression shimmer and single frame flicker are dropped before anything is classified.

03

Classify

Crops from each event are labeled person, vehicle, animal, package or other motion, with a confidence value. Continuous video never leaves your network.

04

Alert

Only events outside your exclude zones, longer than your minimum duration and in a class you picked reach you, by email, webhook or Slack.

If you are pricing the other large Chinese platform, the Dahua DSS Pro license price page totals its base and channel licenses the same way. Moving off Hikvision altogether, the video management software guide compares license models across VMS vendors, and the UniFi Protect cost post prices the no subscription route. For stream URLs and sub streams, see RTSP camera software.

08 Where we lose

Four things HikCentral does that this product does not.

  • Recording

HikCentral records every licensed camera to your storage, with main and auxiliary storage and evidence management. We keep events and their crops, not video.

  • Access control and ANPR

Doors, plate recognition, parking and video intercoms all live in the same HikCentral client. We classify motion for alerts and do none of that.

  • Video walls and remote sites

SmartWall and Remote Site Management run control rooms and many sites from one console. Here you get an event list with crops.

  • Price for recording alone

Fifteen Hikvision cameras cost about $1,018 to $1,290 in licenses once. Our Operate tier is $888 a year and records nothing.

09 What buyers ask at this point

HikCentral Professional license questions that come up before the order.

01

How much is a HikCentral Professional license?

A HikCentral Professional system starts with the VSS base license, about $120 at a US reseller with no cameras included, plus one camera license per channel: $59.88 to $78 for a Hikvision camera or $123.20 for a third party camera. Licenses are perpetual and include three years of software upgrades.

02

Is HikCentral Professional free?

No. The software download is free and V2.4.1 and later come with a 90 day trial license, activated once per server. After the trial you need the base license and a license for every camera, door or other device. Hikvision also sells HikCentral Lite in the US, with a 30 day, 4 channel trial.

03

Does HikCentral Professional support third party cameras?

Yes. The HikCentral-P-VSS-1Ch/3rdParty license, about $123.20 a channel, adds an ONVIF Profile S camera from brands such as Axis, Dahua or Hanwha with live view, playback and alarms. Hikvision analytics such as human and vehicle classification come from Hikvision devices, not from third party video.

04

What is SUP in HikCentral?

SUP is the software upgrade program. Licenses bought since April 2021 include three years of free upgrades, and SUP packages of one or three years extend it to six years at most. One US reseller lists a one year upgrade at $3 a camera. SUP covers new versions, not the right to keep running the one you have.

05

Can I move a HikCentral license to a new server?

Yes. Licenses are bound to the server hardware and activated online or offline. To move one, deactivate it on the old server and activate it on the new one. If the old server failed before you could deactivate it, Hikvision support has to release the license.

06

Is it legal to use Hikvision cameras in the US?

Yes, for most private businesses. NDAA Section 889 bars federal agencies, federal contractors and federal grant recipients from using Hikvision video equipment, and FCC rules stop new Hikvision equipment authorizations and limit imports for covered uses. The FCC states its 2026 notice does not affect continued use of equipment already installed.

07

Can I get person alerts on non Hikvision cameras in HikCentral?

Yes, with a detection layer next to HikCentral. It reads the RTSP sub stream of each camera and labels every motion event as a person, vehicle, animal or package before alerting. MotionDetection does this from $49 a month for four cameras, or $888 a year for fifteen, beside the HikCentral server you keep.

Keep HikCentral. Fix the alerts.

One field, one 6 digit code, and your console opens on that address. Pick the tier by camera count and pay by card, with no quote to wait for.
