You pay for the connector once and for every camera every year.
Verkada's June 2026 datasheet puts both numbers on paper. Here is what each one buys.
The connector
A 1U rack recorder, bought once
CC300 takes 10 cameras at 5MP or less, CC500 takes 25 and CC700 takes 50. Each comes with 30 or 60 days of onboard storage and a 5 year warranty. The connector itself needs no license.
A license per camera channel
1, 3, 5 or 10 years, the same price as a Verkada camera
Every non-Verkada camera feed needs its own Verkada camera license. A four sensor camera is four channels and four licenses. Without the license, the camera is not in Command.
What you actually wanted
Person and vehicle alerts on cameras you already own
Most sites price a connector because the old NVR only sends motion alerts. The connector adds people and vehicle detection and search, and it also makes you buy a second recorder for footage your NVR already keeps.

The last column matters if you are holding an older quote. Verkada's Command Connector FAQ, revision 0526, printed every model $1,500 lower, from $2,999 for the CC300-4TB to $10,499 for the CC700-32TB. The overview datasheet a month later lists the prices in the fifth column. Resellers still show both, so ask which one your quote is built on. Every unit is the same 1U server (Intel i9-13900, 32 GB RAM, RAID, dual 2.5 Gbps Ethernet) with different drives, and a PoE switch for the cameras is on you.
Channel limits that change the model you need
A camera above 5MP uses a 4K channel, so eight 4K cameras already need a CC500.
Cameras connected over plain RTSP, not ONVIF Profile S, are capped at 20 per connector.
Streams wider or taller than 4,090 pixels are not supported at all.
The license per camera costs $249 a year, or about $220 a year on a longer term.
Verkada's FAQ says the per channel license for a non-Verkada camera costs the same as a Command video security license. These are the US MSRP figures in the same datasheet.

Renewals cost the same as new licenses, so a five year term is a subscription that comes due in year five, and it belongs in the same place as the rest of your recurring SaaS and cloud spend rather than in a one off hardware budget. A multisensor camera needs one license per sensor that runs through the connector. A thermal camera gets people and vehicle analytics only on its visible stream. Verkada offers a 30 day trial of Command Connector, extendable to 90 days in total, which is the cheapest way to see how your own cameras behave in Command before a purchase order. The full Verkada hardware and license arithmetic for new cameras is in our breakdown of Verkada cost per camera and the five year total.
Five limits Verkada prints about non-Verkada cameras, and how much each one matters.
Only cameras on the compatibility list are supported
Verkada supports and troubleshoots a non-Verkada camera only if the model and firmware are on its Hardware Compatibility List. Other ONVIF Profile S cameras may work, with no guarantee. Adding a model takes a compatibility request that Verkada says can run weeks to months.
Matters most for older or less common camera brands.
It does not talk to your NVR or VMS
Command Connector connects to cameras only, never to an existing NVR or VMS. It can run in parallel with the old recorder only if each camera can stream to two recorders at once, which varies by model.
Matters most if you plan to keep the NVR during a migration.
Not every analytic runs on every channel
People and vehicle detection and search work on connected cameras. Line crossing, loitering, trajectory, occupancy and queue trends run on the connector's own processing and may not be available on all channels. AI search and AI alerts can have higher latency.
Matters most on a fully loaded connector.
Firmware and security patches stay with you
Verkada does not update firmware or ship security patches for non-Verkada cameras, and gives no warranty on them. You keep managing each camera in its own web interface, with its own passwords.
Matters most to IT teams that bought Verkada to stop doing this.
A network outage can cost footage
The connector ingests every stream over the network, so if the link between a camera and the connector drops, Verkada cannot guarantee the footage from that gap. A Verkada camera records on the camera itself.
Matters most at sites with unreliable switches or long runs.
Where Command Connector is genuinely the right purchase
If you have already decided on Verkada and are replacing cameras over two or three budget cycles, the connector does exactly what it was built for. Old and new cameras sit in one Command organization, the connector becomes the recorder for the old ones, and every camera you swap later simply moves its license to a Verkada camera. Organizations already running Verkada access control get the old cameras next to their doors in the same interface. That buyer should buy it. The rest of this page is for the other one: a working recorder, a set of working cameras, and alerts that fire on shadows and headlights.
What fifteen existing cameras cost on a Command Connector, and on classification alone.
Fifteen 4MP cameras, US MSRP, no installation labor, no reseller discount. A CC300 stops at 10 channels, so fifteen cameras need a CC500.

Per camera per month over five years, the connector route with five year licenses works out to about $26. Our Operate tier on yearly billing is $4.93. The rows do not buy the same thing: the connector is a recorder and a cloud management platform, and we store no video. If your NVR is dying and you need a new recorder anyway, compare the connector against a new NVR or VMS license, which our video management software comparison prices vendor by vendor. If the NVR works and the complaint is the alerts, the bottom row is the whole cost of the fix. The video analytics software price page shows every tier.
Classification on the stream your recorder already pulls, with no box in the rack.
Connect
Give it the RTSP URL your recorder already uses, or let it find the camera over ONVIF. It reads the low resolution sub stream, so the NVR keeps the main stream and nothing on the camera changes.
Detect
Our own background model finds regions that really moved and joins them into events. Sensor noise, compression shimmer and single frame flicker are dropped before anything is classified.
Classify
Crops from each event are labelled person, vehicle, animal, package or other motion, with a confidence value. Continuous video never leaves your network.
Alert
Only events in a class you chose, outside your exclude zones and longer than your minimum duration reach you, by email, webhook or Slack.
The one requirement is the same one Verkada prints for running a connector next to an old recorder: the camera has to allow a second stream session. Most business cameras from the last decade do, and the sub stream is usually free even when the main stream is busy. There is no compatibility list to wait on, because anything that serves H.264 or H.265 over RTSP works. The RTSP camera software page covers stream URLs and codecs, and person detection camera software covers the class most businesses actually want alerts for.
Four things a Command Connector does that this product does not.
-
It records
The connector keeps 30 to 60 days of video on RAID drives, up to 90 days per camera when channels are free. We keep events and their crops, not continuous video, so a site with no working recorder needs one first.
-
One platform with Verkada cameras and doors
Command shows old cameras next to Verkada cameras, access control and sensors. We are a detection layer and sit beside whatever you record on.
-
Search across people and vehicles
Verkada's people and vehicle history and attribute search runs on connected cameras. We give you a classified event list with crops, not a searchable archive.
-
A path to all Verkada cameras
Each camera you later replace with a Verkada model keeps its license. If full Verkada is the destination, the connector is the on ramp and we are not.
Verkada Command Connector questions that come up before a purchase order.
01
How much does a Verkada Command Connector cost?
At US MSRP in Verkada's June 2026 datasheet, the CC300 is $4,499 or $4,999, the CC500 is $6,999 or $7,999 and the CC700 is $9,999 or $11,999, depending on 30 or 60 days of storage. A FIPS validated CC700 is $11,099. Each connected camera also needs a Verkada camera license from $249 a year.
02
Does Verkada Command Connector require a license?
The connector itself needs no license, but every non-Verkada camera channel running through it does. Licenses come in 1, 3, 5 or 10 year terms at $249, $659, $1,099 and $2,199 per channel at US MSRP, the same price as a license for a Verkada camera. A multisensor camera needs one license per sensor.
03
How many cameras can a Verkada Command Connector support?
A CC300 supports 10 cameras at 5MP or less, or 5 at 4K. A CC500 supports 25 or 12, and a CC700 supports 50 or 25. Cameras above 5MP count as 4K channels, and cameras connected over RTSP rather than ONVIF Profile S are limited to 20 per connector.
04
Does Verkada work with other cameras?
Yes, through a Command Connector. It connects ONVIF Profile S cameras and RTSP cameras to Verkada Command, with full support only for models and firmware on Verkada's compatibility list. Non-Verkada cameras get fewer features than Verkada cameras, no firmware updates from Verkada and no Verkada warranty.
05
Can Verkada Command Connector work with my existing NVR?
No. Verkada says Command Connector integrates only with cameras, not with other NVRs or VMS software. It can run next to an old recorder only if each camera can stream to two recorders at once. In practice the connector becomes the recorder for those cameras.
06
What is a cheaper way to get person alerts on existing cameras?
If your NVR already records and the problem is false motion alerts, a detection layer that reads the camera's RTSP sub stream costs less than a second recorder plus licenses. MotionDetection classifies each event as person, vehicle, animal or package from $49 a month for four cameras, or $888 a year for fifteen.
