Two honest caveats. The bottom row assumes your cameras work and speak ONVIF or RTSP, which is most business hardware made in the last decade but not all of it, and if you do need to buy cameras that saving shrinks to the software difference. The top two rows buy you things this product does not have: onboard storage in the camera, access control in the same console, and a vendor who owns the whole chain. Do my cameras speak ONVIF or RTSP?

Open the camera web interface and look for an RTSP URL or ONVIF setting. If it is there, every camera agnostic option on this page is open to you and the hardware line is zero. If it is not, you are shopping for a system, not for software.

How many cameras, and at how many sites?

Under twenty at one or two sites, a self serve published price will almost always beat a quoted enterprise platform. Above forty across many sites, the platforms start earning their price in central administration.

Do I need access control and alarms in the same console?

If yes, that pushes hard toward Verkada or Rhombus, because a separate analytics layer will not manage your doors. If no, you are paying for a console you will not open.

Does face recognition create a legal problem for me?

In Illinois, Texas and Washington, biometric identifiers carry specific statutory obligations. Several products here offer face recognition. Check whether it can be disabled, and get that in writing, because your counsel will ask.
