Hanwha OnCloud pricing, OnCloud license cost per camera for cloud recording, edge recording and third party cameras

Hanwha OnCloud is licensed per camera per year. Edge recording, where video stays on the camera's card or a gateway, costs from about $120 a camera a year on a five year term to $153 on a one year term. Cloud recording costs $345 to $457 a camera a year at 30 days of retention, depending on resolution. Existing cameras that are not Hanwha direct to cloud models also need a Cloud Gateway Recorder, from $1,909.

01 The short answer

Three ways to put cameras on OnCloud, and each one is priced differently.

Hanwha does not publish OnCloud prices. Resellers do, part number by part number. Here is what the three routes buy.

Edge recording

VCV-1YS, 3YS, 5YS: from about $120 a camera a year

Video records to the microSD card in a Hanwha direct to cloud camera, or to the drives in a Cloud Gateway Recorder. The license adds OnCloud access, live view, notifications, 10 GB of clip storage and 30 days of standard quality cloud backup.

Cloud recording

VCV-1YC: $345 to $457 a camera a year at 30 days

Video records in Hanwha's cloud. You pick a resolution tier (2MP, 4MP or 8MP) and a retention (30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 days), and the price scales almost linearly with retention. A 4MP camera kept for a year costs $4,786.

What most buyers actually wanted

Person and vehicle alerts on cameras they already own

A lot of sites price OnCloud because the old NVR only sends motion alerts. OnCloud is a recording platform first. If the recorder works and the complaint is the alerts, you can fix the alerts without moving the video anywhere.

02 OnCloud cloud recording price

What an OnCloud cloud recording license costs per camera for one year.

Surveillance-video.com prices, part numbers VCV-1YC02C, 04C and 08C. The three year versions cost exactly three times as much, so a longer term buys no discount.

4MP (VCV-1YC04C)

8MP (VCV-1YC08C)
$5,476.74

Read the part number from the left: VCV, then the term (1Y or 3Y), then C for cloud, then the resolution (02C, 04C, 08C), then the retention in days (030, 060, 090, 180, 365). A 4MP camera with 30 days on a three year term is VCV-3YC04C0301 at $1,196.60, the same $398.87 a year as the one year license. Most business cameras sold in the last five years are 4MP or 5MP, so the middle column is the one to budget from. Doubling retention doubles the bill, which is why a 90 day policy on cloud recording lands above $1,000 per camera per year.

The upload is part of the price

Cloud recording streams every camera to Hanwha all day.

Direct to cloud cameras keep a microSD card as a trickle back buffer during an outage.

Check the site's upload capacity against fifteen continuous streams before you pick this route.

03 OnCloud edge recording and Cloud Gateway price

Edge recording is a third of the price, and existing cameras go through a gateway.

Only Hanwha's direct to cloud cameras connect to OnCloud on their own, through the CloudConnector app running on the camera. Everything else, including older Hanwha models and third party ONVIF cameras, needs a Cloud Gateway. The Recorder version (CGR) keeps the video on its own drives, up to 40 TB, and each camera on it takes an edge recording license. Hanwha also lists a Cloud Gateway Appliance for up to 16 cameras that sends video to cloud recording instead, licensed with the cloud recording SKUs above. Edge prices vary more between shops than cloud prices: the five year edge license was $599.63 at surveillance-video.com and $849 at networkcamerastore.com in the same week, so ask for two quotes before a purchase order. If your purchasing team already runs vendor comparisons in procurement software, OnCloud fits that process well, because every part is a SKU with a list price.

04 How OnCloud licensing works

Five licensing rules from Hanwha's support documents that change the bill.

01

Bought through a Hanwha partner

Hanwha sells OnCloud licenses to its STEP partners, through distributors or its SalesHub portal. An end user usually gets them from an integrator or an online reseller. The key arrives by email and is added to your organization by order number.

Matters if you want to self install.

02

All licenses share one renewal date

OnCloud co-terminates every license in an organization. Adding cameras mid term shifts the renewal date based on the value of the new licenses, so the next invoice is one number, not fifteen.

Matters for the budget cycle.

03

A 30 day trial exists

A free trial license, VCV-EOS0000301, is requested through Hanwha Inside Sales by a partner. A camera added to a gateway also gets a 5 day licensing grace period.

The cheapest way to test your own cameras.

04

Third party cameras are test first

Hanwha says a gateway makes some third party devices work with OnCloud and recommends testing every model. Cameras that do not implement ONVIF completely may not store recordings or may report recording status wrongly.

Matters most for older or mixed brand sites.

05

The AI comes from Hanwha cameras

OnCloud events and its natural language AI Search (in beta) are built on detections from Hanwha cameras with AI. A third party camera on a gateway is recorded and viewable, but Hanwha's documents promise no person or vehicle classification for it.

Matters if alerts are the reason you are buying.

Where OnCloud is genuinely the right purchase

A site that is buying new Hanwha AI cameras anyway, wants no server in the building and is happy to record on the camera's card gets a lot for about $120 to $153 a camera a year: remote viewing, alerts from the camera's own person and vehicle detection, one renewal date, and nothing to patch. A chain of small locations with a camera or two each is the textbook OnCloud customer. That buyer should buy it, and our Wisenet WAVE license price breakdown covers Hanwha's on premises alternative if a server is fine. The rest of this page is for the other buyer: a working recorder full of cameras from other brands, and alerts that fire on shadows.

05 Fifteen cameras, five years

What fifteen cameras cost on Hanwha OnCloud, and on classification alone.

Classified alerts on 15 cameras, 30 day event history, 5 users, 3 sites, webhook and Slack. Your NVR keeps the video.

Per camera per month over five years, cloud recording works out to about $33, and the gateway route with five year licenses about $12.50. Our Operate tier on yearly billing is $4.93. The rows do not buy the same thing: OnCloud is a recording and management platform, and we store no video. If the NVR is failing and you need a new recorder anyway, compare the gateway route with a new NVR or VMS license on our video management software comparison. If the NVR works and the complaint is the alerts, the bottom row is the whole cost of the fix, and every tier is on the video analytics software price page.

06 The other way to get person alerts on existing cameras

Classification on the stream your recorder already pulls, with no gateway in the rack.

01

Connect

Give it the RTSP URL your recorder already uses, or let it find the camera over ONVIF. It reads the low resolution sub stream, so the NVR keeps the main stream and nothing on the camera changes.

02

Detect

Our own background model finds regions that really moved and joins them into events. Sensor noise, compression shimmer and single frame flicker are dropped before anything is classified.

03

Classify

Crops from each event are labelled person, vehicle, animal, package or other motion, with a confidence value. Continuous video never leaves your network, so there is no all day upload.

04

Alert

Only events in a class you chose, outside your exclude zones and longer than your minimum duration reach you, by email, webhook or Slack.

There is no compatibility list to test against, because anything that serves H.264 or H.265 over RTSP works, whatever brand made it. The RTSP camera software page covers stream URLs and codecs, and person detection camera software covers the class most businesses actually want alerts for. Sites weighing another cloud platform for the same cameras can compare the numbers on our Verkada Command Connector pricing page.

07 Where we lose

Four things Hanwha OnCloud does that this product does not.

  • It records

OnCloud keeps video on the camera, on a gateway or in the cloud, with 30 days of cloud backup on edge licenses. We keep events and their crops, not continuous video, so a site with no working recorder needs one first.

  • Off site copies of footage

If the recorder is stolen or burns, cloud backup still has the last 30 days. We cannot replace an off site copy of the video.

  • No server at the site

With direct to cloud Hanwha cameras there is nothing in the building but cameras and a switch. We sit beside a recorder you already run.

  • Health monitoring and firmware

Hanwha's cloud also sells device health and firmware management for its cameras. We only read the video stream.

08 What buyers ask at this point

Hanwha OnCloud questions that come up before a purchase order.

01

How much does Hanwha OnCloud cost?

Hanwha OnCloud is licensed per camera per year. At US reseller prices, edge recording costs $152.64 a camera for one year or about $120 a year on a five year term, and cloud recording with 30 days of retention costs $345.17 at 2MP, $398.87 at 4MP and $456.39 at 8MP per camera per year.

02

Is Hanwha OnCloud a subscription?

Yes. Every OnCloud license is a subscription for one, three or five years, and all licenses in an organization are aligned to one renewal date. Three year cloud recording licenses cost exactly three times the one year price, so a longer term locks the price but gives no discount.

03

Does Hanwha OnCloud work with third party cameras?

Only through a Cloud Gateway. Hanwha direct to cloud cameras connect on their own, and older Hanwha models and third party ONVIF cameras connect through a Cloud Gateway Recorder or Appliance. Hanwha recommends testing each third party model, since cameras with incomplete ONVIF support may not record correctly.

04

How much is a Hanwha Cloud Gateway?

The CGR-1610, a 16 channel Cloud Gateway Recorder, costs $1,909.20 with 4 TB up to $3,922 with 32 TB at a US reseller. The 32 channel CGR-3210B1 costs $2,560.40 with 8 TB up to $6,586 with 64 TB. Each camera on a gateway recorder also needs an OnCloud edge recording license.

05

Is there a free trial of Hanwha OnCloud?

Yes. Hanwha offers a 30 day trial license, part number VCV-EOS0000301, which a Hanwha partner requests from Hanwha Inside Sales. Cameras added through a Cloud Gateway also get a 5 day licensing grace period with full viewing, recording and export.

06

What is a cheaper way to get person alerts on existing cameras?

If your NVR already records and the problem is false motion alerts, a detection layer that reads each camera's RTSP sub stream costs less than a gateway plus licenses. MotionDetection classifies each event as person, vehicle, animal or package from $49 a month for four cameras, or $888 a year for fifteen.

Keep the recorder. Fix the alerts.

One field, one 6 digit code, and your console opens on that address. Pick the tier by camera count and pay by card, with no quote to wait for.
