Orchid VMS is priced per camera. On IPConfigure's US price list, Orchid Core (the recorder) is $104 per camera as a perpetual license plus $42 a camera a year for support and updates, and Orchid Fusion (recording plus central management) is $222 plus $74 a year, or a $120 a camera a year subscription. Orchid Hybrid, which adds remote cloud access to a local recorder, is $84 a camera a year. A 90 day trial license costs nothing.
IPConfigure does not publish prices on its website, and its resellers mostly ask for a quote, so the figures below come from the manufacturer's MSRP list filed with the State of Texas DIR purchasing contract (the 2023 edition, the latest we could find) plus IPConfigure's current documentation. Resellers and integrators can discount from MSRP. We sell person and vehicle detection for cameras a business already owns, so the later sections say plainly when Orchid is the better buy and when you only need part of what it does.
The Orchid VMS price list
Orchid comes in three editions that share one recorder. Core records and plays back cameras on one server. Fusion adds central management of many recorders across locations. Hybrid manages the same local recorders through IPConfigure's cloud, so you get remote access without opening ports. Every edition is counted per camera, and the extra sensors of a multi-view camera are licensed at $0.

Two details change the arithmetic. First, the perpetual licenses come with a first year of support billed at the yearly rate, so a Fusion camera really costs $296 in year one and a Core camera $146. Support is sold in blocks of 1 to 4 years at exactly the yearly rate times the term, with no multi year discount, and a monthly co-termed rate exists so that cameras added mid year renew on the same date as the rest.
Second, Hybrid has two routes. You can pay the $84 a year bundle, or own a $104 Hybrid recorder license and pay $48 a year for cloud access on top. Over five years the bundle is $420 a camera and the owned route $344, so owning wins if you are sure you will stay.
IPConfigure also sold Orchid Alto, cloud recording for single sensor Axis cameras at up to 1080p: $19 a camera a month for 12 days, $25 for 25 days, $34 for 50 days and $54 for 100 days, each with storage and viewing caps. It is not listed among the editions on IPConfigure's product page today, so check with a reseller before you plan around it.
What the SteelFin server adds
Orchid runs on your own Linux or Windows server, and IPConfigure sells matching hardware under the SteelFin name with the recommended camera count printed on each model. The compact Tiger Cube kits list at $1,270.69 for 8 cameras, $1,451.01 for 16, $1,724.31 for 32, $2,304.71 for 64 and $2,668.17 for 100 or more, before disks. Storage kits add from $129.60 for 1TB to $1,281.96 for 18TB on a single drive. Rack servers for 40 to 250 cameras run from $6,140.73 to $18,664.52.
If you already own a server, or you are replacing another VMS on the same box, the hardware line disappears and Orchid's price is the license column alone.
What Orchid AI adds
IPConfigure now sells Orchid AI for real time object detection and search across recorded video, covering people, vehicles and other objects. It runs locally on the recorder's CPU, and an NVIDIA GPU speeds it up; the descriptive search feature needs an Orchid recorder on Linux with an NVIDIA GPU. It is licensed per camera. Hybrid licenses include unlimited AI search, while Fusion and trial systems may enable AI search on one camera stream without a license. We found no public per camera price for the Orchid AI license, so ask for it on the same quote.

Read the table honestly. If you are choosing a recorder anyway, Orchid Hybrid at $84 a camera a year records, gives remote access and includes AI search, and it costs less than our Operate tier. That is a good deal and we would not talk a school district or a franchise group out of it.
Public buyers often reach Orchid through cooperative contracts, and moving recorders means retraining whoever watches the cameras. If your team already runs training in a corporate learning management system, a short module on the new client saves a week of support calls.
If the reason you are shopping is alerts
Plenty of people price a new VMS because the old one sends useless alerts: every headlight, every tree in the wind. Migrating fifteen cameras to Orchid to fix that means a new recorder, a new client for every user, a data migration or a parallel run, and staff training, all to change one thing.
There is a shorter route. MotionDetection reads the RTSP sub stream of each camera your current NVR or VMS already records, labels every real motion event as a person, vehicle, animal or package, and alerts only on the classes you pick, by email, webhook or Slack. Nothing about the recorder changes and continuous video never leaves your network. You can run the demo on a clip before you create an account, and every tier is on the video analytics software price page.
If you are still comparing recording platforms, the video management software guide lines them up by license model, our Dahua DSS Pro license price page shows the per channel cost of a VMS with a free edition, and the posts on the exacqVision license price and the Wisenet WAVE license total per camera costs the same way.
Questions buyers ask
How much does Orchid VMS cost?
Orchid VMS costs $104 per camera for an Orchid Core license or $222 for Orchid Fusion at MSRP, plus yearly support of $42 or $74 a camera. Fusion is also sold as a $120 a camera a year subscription, and Orchid Hybrid is $84 a camera a year with cloud access included. Resellers can discount, and a 90 day trial is free.
Is Orchid VMS free?
No. IPConfigure lets you download Orchid and run it on a 90 day trial license at no charge, but a permanent system needs a paid per camera license or subscription. The extra sensors of a multi-view camera are licensed at $0, so a four sensor camera costs the same as a single lens one.
What is the difference between Orchid Core, Fusion and Hybrid?
Orchid Core is the recorder: it records, streams and plays back cameras on one server. Fusion adds central management of many Core recorders across locations from one browser interface. Hybrid manages local recorders through IPConfigure's cloud, which gives remote access without port forwarding and includes unlimited AI search.
Does Orchid VMS have person detection?
Yes, through Orchid AI, which detects people, vehicles and other objects on the recorder itself and makes them searchable. It is licensed per camera, included for AI search on Hybrid, and free on one camera for Fusion and trial systems. An NVIDIA GPU is optional for speed, and needed for the descriptive search feature on Linux.
Can I get person alerts without replacing my VMS?
Yes. A detection layer can read the RTSP sub stream your existing recorder already pulls and classify every motion event before it alerts. MotionDetection does this from $49 a month for four cameras, or $888 a year for fifteen, with no new recorder, no new client and no cloud archive of your video.
