Honeywell MAXPRO VMS replacement options with license costs per camera
MAXPRO VMS R670 and R700 lost updates and support on October 1, 2025. The Honeywell R790 upgrade against DW Spectrum, Wisenet WAVE, AXIS Camera Station Pro and exacqVision at $75 to $200 per camera, with fifteen camera totals.

If your building records on Honeywell MAXPRO VMS R670 or R700, or MAXPRO NVR 6.7 or 7.0, that software lost downloads, security updates and technical support on October 1, 2025. Honeywell's path is an upgrade to MAXPRO VMS R790 / NVR 7.9, priced by dealer quote. The alternative is moving the same cameras to another VMS, which runs about $75 to $200 per camera in licenses, or roughly $1,100 to $3,000 for fifteen cameras.
Older releases went first. R600 and R630 (NVR 6.0 and 6.3) became obsolete on December 31, 2023. And on Honeywell's US site, the product pages for MAXPRO VMS Software and Licenses, MAXPRO VMS Server and Client, and the MAXPRO VMS and NVR software support agreement are all marked "This product has been discontinued." Below are the dates from Honeywell's own notices, the two realistic paths, and per camera license costs for the platforms most MAXPRO sites move to.
Which MAXPRO versions are already out of support
Honeywell Commercial Security publishes end of support notices on its EOL and security notices page. Two of them cover nearly every MAXPRO system still running in US buildings.

Obsolete means the same three things in both notices: the release is no longer available from Honeywell and downloads are removed, software and security updates stop, and technical support ends. The recorder keeps recording, but any new vulnerability in it stays open. Honeywell also issued a June 2024 security notification for MAXPRO SE and XE NVR Rev D computers covering Intel chipset device software, which is a reminder that these systems are Windows machines that need patching like any other.
Upgrade to R790 or move to another VMS
Honeywell describes R790 as its most significant release, with 64-bit services, higher throughput and more cameras per server, including 4K cameras. If your site also runs Pro-Watch access control on the same Honeywell stack, or your security integrator is a Honeywell dealer under a service contract, the upgrade keeps everything in one family and is usually the least disruptive move.
The catch is price visibility. Honeywell does not publish MAXPRO license prices, and distributors show them only to signed in dealers. MAXPRO licensing is also layered: base software, additional base channels in blocks from 64 up to 512 channels, workstation client licenses, and Intelligent Command licenses for third party camera management, which Honeywell says must be ordered separately. Ask the dealer to itemize all four lines plus the hardware.
Moving to another VMS makes sense when the dealer quote is high, when the recording server needs replacing anyway, or when the cameras are mostly third party models. The four platforms below sell licenses per camera at published reseller prices, which makes a side by side quote possible. The broader field is compared on our video management software page.

Those numbers give you a ceiling to hold the R790 quote against. If the Honeywell upgrade lands well above $3,000 in licenses for fifteen cameras, a move is worth pricing properly. Before any of it goes out for approval, it helps to keep an inventory of every camera, license key and server you are migrating, so the new quote covers exactly what is on the walls.
Keeping your cameras through the move
A VMS migration rarely means new cameras. Most Honeywell equIP IP cameras support ONVIF, so check each model for ONVIF Profile S support and note its RTSP path before the cutover. Third party cameras already on MAXPRO through Intelligent Command are usually standard ONVIF devices too. Analog cameras on a MAXPRO NVR need an encoder to reach any IP based VMS.
Run the old and new systems side by side for a week if the server budget allows. Point the new VMS at a few cameras first, confirm recording and retention, then move the rest. The RTSP camera software page lists stream path formats that help when a camera does not appear in an ONVIF scan.
Fixing the alerts while you migrate
Many MAXPRO sites start this project because of alerts, not recording. The built in motion detection fires on headlights, rain and shadows, and nobody watches the alarm queue anymore. A new VMS does not fix that by itself, since most per camera licenses above record and play back but leave detection to the camera.
That is the part we sell. MotionDetection reads the RTSP stream of each camera, labels every motion event as a person, vehicle or nothing, and sends alerts with a cropped still to email, Slack or a webhook. It does not record continuously, so you still need MAXPRO or its replacement for that. Because it reads the cameras rather than the VMS, it works the same before, during and after the move, and a small connector on site handles cameras behind NAT. The Operate tier covers 15 cameras for $888 a year or $149 a month, and every tier is on the video analytics software price page. You can test one of your own clips in the demo above.
Questions buyers ask
Is Honeywell MAXPRO VMS discontinued?
Yes, in part. Honeywell's US product pages mark MAXPRO VMS Software and Licenses, MAXPRO VMS Server and Client, and the MAXPRO VMS and NVR support agreement as discontinued. Releases R600 and R630 became obsolete on December 31, 2023, and R670 and R700 on October 1, 2025. Honeywell points those sites to R790.
What replaced Honeywell MAXPRO VMS?
Within Honeywell, MAXPRO VMS R790 / NVR 7.9 replaces R670 and R700, and R795 / NVR 7.95 was announced for sites on R695. Outside Honeywell, MAXPRO sites commonly move to Wisenet WAVE, DW Spectrum, AXIS Camera Station Pro, exacqVision, Milestone XProtect or Genetec, keeping their existing ONVIF cameras.
How much does a MAXPRO VMS license cost?
Honeywell does not publish MAXPRO VMS license prices, and distributors show them only to signed in dealers, so every upgrade is a dealer quote. Ask for base software, channel blocks, client licenses and Intelligent Command as separate lines. For comparison, other VMS licenses run about $75 to $200 per camera.
Can I use my Honeywell cameras with another VMS?
Usually yes. Most Honeywell equIP IP cameras support ONVIF, which every VMS in this article reads. Check each model for ONVIF Profile S support and its RTSP path before you migrate. Analog cameras recorded by a MAXPRO NVR need an encoder to connect to an IP based VMS.
Does MAXPRO VMS still get security updates?
Not on obsolete releases. Honeywell's notices say software and security updates stopped for R600 and R630 on December 31, 2023, and for R670 and R700 on October 1, 2025. Sites on those versions should upgrade to R790 or move to another supported VMS.
