Upgrading Avigilon Control Center 7 to Avigilon Unity Video 8 is a paid major version upgrade unless your cameras are covered by a Smart Plan. In practice that means buying one Smart Plan per camera channel, which at a US reseller costs $14.45 to $57.78 per camera for Standard and $28.89 to $108 for Enterprise, for 1 to 5 years. Fifteen Enterprise cameras cost $433.35 for the 1 year plan or $1,620 for 5 years.
The camera channel licenses you already own stay valid, and feature licenses such as face and license plate recognition carry over without an upgrade. What you are paying for is the entitlement to run the new version. Below are the rules from Avigilon's own documentation, current part numbers and prices, and the arithmetic for a typical fifteen camera site.
Free or paid, decided by your Smart Plan
Avigilon released Unity Video on October 2, 2023. Its user guide describes Unity Video as a paid major version upgrade and says sites running ACC 7 need Smart Plan licenses to use it. Which of three situations you are in decides the bill.

There is one counting rule that trips sites up. Avigilon's guide says the number of Smart Plan licenses must equal the number of camera channels before upgrading, and Avigilon's support article on the Smart Assurance Plan adds that a plan upgrades the same number of base licenses and does not add channels. A site with 40 Enterprise channels and a 20 camera plan is not covered. The Upgrade Eligibility check in Site Setup shows whether you need more.
Smart Update parts also need ACC 7.14.0 or newer, according to the Smart Assurance Plan fact sheet. A server on an older ACC 7 build should be brought to the latest ACC 7 release first.
Smart Plan prices per camera
Avigilon publishes no price list, so these are the sale and list prices shown by Bluff City Electronics, a US reseller, on October 23, 2026. The older ACC Smart Plan part numbers (ACC-STD-SMART-1YR, ACC-ENT-SMART-5YR and so on) sell at the same prices.

No Core edition Smart Plan appears in the same catalog, so a Core site should ask its integrator how its version upgrade is sold. If you plan to change edition at the same time, the per camera upgrades are UNITY8-COR-TO-STD at $103.14, UNITY8-STD-TO-ENT at $171.90 and UNITY8-COR-TO-ENT at $221.01. Full license prices for adding cameras are on our Avigilon camera license cost page.
Fifteen cameras, priced three ways
Take a building with fifteen cameras on ACC 7 Standard or Enterprise and no active Smart Plan. The upgrade cost is the plan, nothing else, as long as the server already meets the Unity Video requirements.

The 5 year plan costs about 4 times the 1 year plan for 5 times the coverage, so if you expect to stay on Avigilon, it is the cheapest per year. The 1 year plan is the cheapest way to get onto Unity Video 8 today if a move away from Avigilon is on the table within two years. Getting the PO through finance is often slower than the upgrade itself; attaching a one line per part number quote and Avigilon's eligibility screenshot usually answers the questions before they are asked.
What forces the upgrade
Avigilon's Unity Video comparison chart is the clearest list of what ACC 7 does not have. Three items push most sites to upgrade:
- H6A and H6X cameras. The chart marks H6A/X camera support for Unity Video 8 only. If you are buying new Avigilon cameras, the server has to move.
- AdaptAI 6 analytics, audio analytics and dynamic privacy masking. All three are Unity Video 8 only. ACC 7 runs AdaptAI 5.
- Unified login, Software Manager and the Unity Video mobile app. Also Unity Video 8 only, and the reason many IT teams ask for the upgrade once they manage more than one site.
Recording, rules, alarms, maps, Appearance Search and the Unity Access integration already exist in ACC 7. If none of the three items above matters to your site, there is no hard deadline to upgrade today, though you will be on an older release for security fixes. Avigilon's own pages and the full chart are worth reading in full, and if you want to check a specific rule without scrolling through a long PDF, you can ask the user guide your question directly and get the page reference back.
Before you run the installer
- Run the Upgrade Eligibility check in Site Setup and match Smart Plan licenses to camera channels.
- Confirm each server runs Windows 10 build 1607, Windows Server 2016 or later, which Unity Video requires.
- Bring every server to ACC 7.14.0 or newer so Smart Update parts apply.
- Back up the site configuration and export the license list before you start, as Avigilon's guide advises.
- Upgrade the clients too. Unity Video Client replaces ACC Client, and ACC Mobile 3 users move to the Unity Video mobile app for the new features.
Plan a maintenance window and tell whoever watches the cameras that live view will drop while each server restarts. On multi server Enterprise sites, ask your integrator for the server order before the night itself, so the eligibility check, the backups and the client rollout all happen in one pass.
If alerts are the reason you are upgrading
A good share of ACC 7 sites look at Unity Video 8 because the motion alerts on their older or third party cameras are useless. The upgrade will not change that. AdaptAI analytics classify people and vehicles on Avigilon analytic cameras. On non analytic cameras, Avigilon classifies through a video analytics channel (UNITY8-VAC, $294.68 per camera at the same reseller) running on an Avigilon AI NVR or AI Appliance, which is new hardware from about $6,000. The Avigilon AI NVR price post itemizes that route.
MotionDetection does that job from the outside. It reads the RTSP stream of each camera, labels each motion event as a person, vehicle, animal or nothing, and sends an alert with a cropped still to email, Slack or a webhook. Avigilon keeps recording on ACC 7 or Unity Video 8, and nothing is installed on the Avigilon server, so it works the same before and after the upgrade. The Operate tier covers 15 cameras for $888 a year or $149 a month, and every tier is on the video analytics software price page. You can run one of your own clips through the demo first. If you are comparing every hardware and software route to AI alerts, see the AI NVR software comparison.
Questions buyers ask
Is the upgrade from ACC 7 to Unity Video 8 free?
Only for sites with Smart Plan coverage. Avigilon's guide says a Smart Plan that was active, or that expired after the Unity Video release on October 2, 2023, makes the site eligible for a free upgrade. Sites whose plan expired earlier, or that never had one, buy a new Smart Plan per camera channel for their edition.
How much is an Avigilon Smart Plan?
At a US reseller in October 2026, a Standard Smart Plan costs $14.45 per camera for 1 year, $39.06 for 3 years and $57.78 for 5 years. Enterprise costs $28.89, $69.39 and $108 per camera. List prices are about 10 percent higher. One plan is needed for each camera channel on the site.
Do I need new camera licenses to upgrade to Unity Video 8?
No. Existing ACC 7 camera channel licenses stay in use, and Avigilon says feature licenses such as face and license plate recognition do not need an upgrade. What the site needs is Smart Plan coverage for every camera channel, which is the upgrade entitlement, not a new channel license.
What happens if I stay on ACC 7?
The system keeps recording and your licenses keep working. You do not get Unity Video 8 features such as AdaptAI 6, audio analytics, dynamic privacy masking, unified login and support for H6A and H6X cameras, and you stay on an older release for fixes. Sites buying new Avigilon cameras usually have to upgrade.
What are the system requirements for Unity Video 8?
Avigilon's guide lists Windows 10 build 1607, Windows Server 2016 or later for Unity Video. Servers should be on ACC 7.14.0 or newer to use Smart Update parts, and the site configuration should be backed up before the upgrade. Check camera firmware against Avigilon's compatibility list for third party models.
