An Avigilon AI NVR 2 costs about $6,039 for the smallest 6 TB Value unit and $29,925 to $31,500 for a 16 TB Standard at US resellers, before any camera license. Each camera then needs a Unity Video or ACC license, $88.13 to $300.68 depending on edition, and every non-analytic camera that should get people and vehicle detection needs a $311.05 analytics channel license. The Standard model runs that detection on 9 such cameras out of the box.

Most people pricing the AI NVR are not shopping for storage. They have a wall of older or third party cameras, motion alerts nobody trusts, and a dealer who has told them the AI NVR will add Avigilon analytics without replacing a camera. That is true. This page puts a number on it, using Avigilon's own AI NVR 2 datasheet for what each model can do and two US resellers for the prices, Bluff City Electronics and Southern Electrical. Avigilon does not publish a price list, so treat every figure as a street price, not a quote.

The AI NVR 2 ships in four families, from 6 TB to 440 TB of usable storage and up to 400 recorded cameras. It runs Avigilon Hardened OS with ACC 7, and Avigilon lists Unity Video 8 as a free online upgrade. There are no video outputs, so a separate workstation or the web client is how anyone watches it.

Two warnings before anyone copies the Value line into a budget. Avigilon's AI NVR 2 Value page now says the product is discontinued and points to the AI NVR 2X, which comes in Value and Premium versions up to 200 cameras and 200 TB. We found no US price for the 2X yet. And the original AI NVR, the Standard and Premium models before the 2, sits on Avigilon's discontinued products list, so a used or refurbished first generation unit is a dead end for new analytics licenses. Bluff City also showed every AI NVR 2 as unavailable to buy online, which is normal for Avigilon: the price is visible, the order goes through a dealer.

The licenses on top of the hardware

Avigilon's first generation datasheet says it plainly: camera licenses are sold separately. Nothing we found says the AI NVR 2 includes any. Every camera needs a recording license in one of three editions, and the AI features are separate per channel licenses on top. The same prices apply to the ACC 7 and Unity Video 8 versions at Bluff City, except Standard.

Prices above are from October 14, 2026. Bluff City repriced the recording and analytics lines later that month (UNITY8-COR $83.49, UNITY8-STD $135, UNITY8-ENT $284.86, UNITY8-VAC $294.68), and the current list with list prices, Smart Plans and edition upgrades is on our Avigilon camera license cost page.

The line that surprises people is the analytics channel. Avigilon's datasheet marks UNITY8-VAC as required for Classified Object Detection, which is the people and vehicle detection most buyers are paying for. So a third party camera that should stop sending alerts for shadows costs a recording license plus $311.05, once, on top of the box. Avigilon's own H4A, H5A and H6A cameras do that detection on board and do not need it.

How many cameras actually get AI on an AI NVR 2

This is the number dealers rarely put in the first email. The AI NVR 2 records far more cameras than it can analyze. Avigilon's datasheet gives the count of non-analytic cameras each model can run Classified Object Detection on, assuming 2 MP streams at 30 frames per second:

Read that against your camera list. A Standard unit at roughly $30,000 records 130 cameras and adds object detection to 9 of the older ones. Turn on Appearance Search for those cameras as well and the figure stays at 9; add facial recognition and it drops to 8. Multi sensor cameras count as one camera per sensor. If you have 40 non-analytic cameras and want all of them classified, you are into a Premium with an analytics kit, which is a $37,350 starting point before kit, licenses and installation.

Fifteen older cameras, priced three ways

A common case: fifteen working third party or older Avigilon cameras on a site whose recorder is due for replacement, and the real goal is alerts that only fire for people and vehicles. Prices are Bluff City's, before tax, installation and the dealer's labor.

What you get
Person and vehicle alerts on 15 streams, your recorder keeps recording

The AI NVR buys a recorder and storage as well as analytics, so the rows are not like for like, and that is the honest way to read them. If your existing recorder is dying anyway and you are staying with Avigilon, the AI NVR replaces two purchases. If the recorder is fine and the complaint is alerts, the analytics half of that quote is the part you are really paying for, and you can test that half on your own footage in the demo above before talking to a dealer. Our pricing page lists every tier by camera count, and the person detection camera software page shows what the alerts look like on an older camera.

Get the dealer quote in writing with the license lines broken out per camera. Large AI NVR orders tend to arrive as a single PDF with thirty part numbers, and if your purchasing team keys those into a spreadsheet to compare bids, an invoice and quote data extraction tool saves the retyping. The lines to look for are VAC, the kit, and whether the recording licenses are Core, Standard or Enterprise.

When the AI NVR is the right buy

There are sites where the AI NVR is clearly the better answer, and we would rather say so. A campus already running Avigilon cameras and ACC wants Appearance Search across every camera, which reads Avigilon camera metadata on up to 220 cameras per unit and is something we do not do. A site that needs facial recognition or license plate lanes, or Visible Firearm Detection in the US, buys those from Avigilon, not from us. And a site that must keep video on premises with no outbound connection is better served by a box in its own rack, since our classification runs as a service.

The AI NVR is a harder sell for a business with fewer than 20 cameras of mixed brands and a recorder that works. For that buyer the recorder line is money spent on a problem they do not have. If you are comparing other platforms that can record those same cameras, the video management software comparison sets out license models side by side, and the Hanwha AI Box price page covers the smaller appliance route that adds AI without a new recorder. Sites leaving Avigilon for an open platform usually land on per camera licenses like those on the DW Spectrum license pricing page.

Questions buyers ask

How much does an Avigilon AI NVR 2 cost?

At US resellers, an AI NVR 2 Value runs $6,039 for 6 TB to $11,000.70 for 24 TB, a Standard $29,925 to $46,184.25, a Premium from $37,350 and a Premium Plus up to $164,687.25. Camera licenses and analytics channel licenses are extra, and Avigilon sells through dealers, so the final quote varies.

Does the Avigilon AI NVR include camera licenses?

No. Avigilon's datasheet says ACC camera licenses are sold separately, and we found no AI NVR 2 document that includes any. Each camera needs a Core, Standard or Enterprise license, from $88.13 to $300.68 at Bluff City, and object detection on a non-analytic camera needs a $311.05 analytics channel license on top.

How many third party cameras can the AI NVR 2 analyze?

It depends on the model and kit. The Standard runs Classified Object Detection on 9 non-analytic cameras, or 18 with the $6,053.40 performance kit. The Value needs an analytics kit to run any, then 4 or 9. A Premium with one analytics kit reaches 47, and a Premium Plus with its kit 70.

Is the Avigilon AI NVR 2 Value discontinued?

Yes. Avigilon's AI NVR 2 Value product page says the product has been discontinued and links to its replacement, the AI NVR 2X, which comes in Value and Premium models for up to 200 cameras and 200 TB. Resellers still list Value units, so confirm with the dealer which model you are being quoted.

What is the cheapest way to add AI to existing cameras without replacing them?

Use a detection layer that reads the cameras' existing streams. An AI appliance such as Avigilon's AI NVR or Hanwha's AI Box sits on site (every AI box for CCTV cameras is priced side by side here), while AI NVR software that reads your existing recorder like ours takes the RTSP sub stream and sends person and vehicle alerts, from $288 a year for 4 cameras or $888 a year for 15, with the current recorder untouched.
