Video Insight license price per camera for VideoInsight 8 term licenses and VI 7 perpetual licenses
i-PRO cameras need no license; third party cameras cost $77.72 to $290 per term on VideoInsight 8 or $230.84 once on VI 7, servers from $1,740, and five year totals for fifteen cameras.

A Video Insight camera license costs nothing on an i-PRO or Advidia camera. A third party camera on VideoInsight 8 costs $77.72 for one year, $230.84 for three, $261 for five or $290 for seven at i-PRO list price, and each server needs its own term license from $1,740. On VideoInsight 7 the same camera is a one time $230.84 perpetual license with unlimited upgrades, and US resellers sell it for about $191 to $200.
That is the whole price structure in four sentences, and the part that surprises most buyers is the change between versions. VideoInsight 7 sold licenses you owned. VideoInsight 8, released by i-PRO in March 2025, sells licenses for a term of one, three, five or seven years, with updates and support included for the term. Both are still on offer. The figures below come from i-PRO's own MSRP catalog, its Sourcewell contract price list and two US resellers, each named. We sell a person and vehicle detection layer that runs beside a recorder like this one, and the last sections say where that matters and where it does not.
VideoInsight 8 license prices
VideoInsight 8 has two license lines: one per third party camera and one per server. A new server has to start on a three, five or seven year term. The one year camera license exists only for adding cameras to a server that is already licensed, so the cheapest way in is not the one year row.

The five year camera license is the sweet spot. At $261 it costs $30.16 more than the three year one and buys two extra years, which takes the yearly cost from about $77 to $52. The seven year license drops it again to about $41, but seven years is longer than most cameras stay on a wall. i-PRO's datasheet lists cameras per server and servers per system as unrestricted, so the server license does not grow with camera count. What i-PRO's public material does not say is exactly what a server does when a term ends without renewal, so get that answer from your dealer in writing before you pick a term.
VideoInsight 7 perpetual license prices
VideoInsight 7 is still sold, and i-PRO's product page pitches it as a route to VideoInsight 8 later. Its licenses are perpetual. The camera license, IPSVC-UL, includes unlimited software upgrades, which is why it costs the same as a three year VI 8 license at list.

Altex also lists IPSVC-UL at $199.99, so about $191 to $200 is a fair US street range for the camera license. Network Camera Store sells a competitive upgrade camera license at $88.74 for sites replacing another VMS, which is worth asking about if you are moving off an older platform. Schools buying through Sourcewell get the contract column, which sits about 4 percent under list.
Perpetual against term is a five year question. Fifteen third party cameras on VI 7 cost $3,462.60 in camera licenses at list and nothing more for the life of the system. The same cameras on five year VI 8 licenses cost $3,915, and then the term ends. Over five years VI 7 is cheaper. Past seven, it is much cheaper.
Which cameras need no license
i-PRO and Advidia cameras record on VideoInsight without a camera license, on both versions. That is the design of the product: the software is how i-PRO sells cameras into school districts. A district that buys i-PRO cameras pays only the server license, and VideoInsight 8 then costs $2,436 for five years no matter how many cameras sit on the server.
Mixed fleets are where the quote grows. A campus with ten i-PRO cameras and five older third party domes pays for five camera licenses, not fifteen. Count the third party cameras on the floor plan before you ask for a quote, and check each model against i-PRO's supported device list, because a camera that does not work well in the software costs more in support time than the license.

Software only, at i-PRO list prices unless the row says otherwise. Server hardware, storage, cameras and installation are left out, and a dealer quoting a whole district will often come in under list.

Our row is not a replacement for any of the others. VideoInsight records and stores video, and we do not. It is in the table for one buyer: a district whose recorder works and whose real complaint is that motion alerts from the parking lot fire all night. For other recorders priced the same way, see the exacqVision license price, the Wisenet WAVE license price and the video management software price comparison. A district finance office usually wants the five year number as a recurring line rather than one purchase, and putting it into the annual budget next to camera replacement keeps a term renewal from landing as a surprise.
Video wall, LPR and access control
The add ons are where a school quote moves from a few thousand dollars to a lot more. At i-PRO list:
- Video wall: $2,320 per PC that drives the wall.
- License plate recognition plug-in: $156.60, plus $1,293.40 per camera for Vaxtor edge LPR.
- Access control integration: $119.48 to $230.84 per server, depending on the system.
- MonitorCast access control: $230.84 per door.
AI search for people, vehicles and faces comes from i-PRO Active Guard, a plug-in that runs inside VideoInsight 7 and 8 and reads metadata from i-PRO AI cameras. None of the price lists we read carries a separate Active Guard part number, so ask whether it is included with your cameras. On third party cameras, Active Guard has no camera side AI to read.
When the license is not the problem
Plenty of districts price a VideoInsight upgrade because the alerts are useless: every shadow, headlight and spider at night sends a notification, so nobody reads them. A new VMS license does not fix that on third party cameras, because the detection still comes from the camera's own pixel change motion. Replacing fifteen cameras with AI models to get Active Guard fixes it, at camera prices.
The cheaper fix is a detection layer on the cameras you already have. Ours reads the same RTSP stream the recorder pulls, classifies each event as person, vehicle, animal or package, and alerts by email, webhook or Slack, while VideoInsight keeps recording. You can run one of your own clips through the demo above before you spend anything, and the person detection camera software page shows the alerts on a real campus layout. Plans are on the pricing page: Operate covers 15 cameras for $888 a year. If you are also weighing an enterprise platform, the Pelco VideoXpert license price page covers the other common choice in public sector security rooms.
Questions buyers ask
How much is a Video Insight license?
On an i-PRO or Advidia camera, nothing. A third party camera costs $77.72 for one year, $230.84 for three, $261 for five or $290 for seven years on VideoInsight 8 at i-PRO list price, plus a server license from $1,740 for three years. On VideoInsight 7 a perpetual camera license lists at $230.84 and sells for about $191 to $200.
Is VideoInsight 8 a subscription?
It is a term license rather than a monthly subscription. You prepay one, three, five or seven years per camera and per server, with updates and support included for the term. VideoInsight 7 licenses are perpetual, and the camera license includes unlimited upgrades.
Do i-PRO cameras need a Video Insight license?
No. i-PRO and Advidia cameras need no camera license on VideoInsight 7 or 8. You still license the server. Only third party cameras need a per camera license.
How much does it cost to upgrade from Video Insight 7 to 8?
The server upgrade license, IPSVSE-UPG-V8, lists at $114.84 per server. Check with your dealer how existing VI 7 camera licenses carry over, because i-PRO's public catalog does not spell it out.
How many cameras can one Video Insight server handle?
i-PRO's VideoInsight 8 datasheet lists cameras per server and servers per system as unrestricted. The real limit is the server hardware and network, so size the recorder by bitrate and retention, not by license.
