Bosch BVMS license price per camera for BVMS Lite, Plus and Professional

A Bosch BVMS license is a perpetual base package per system plus one camera expansion per camera above the eight the base includes. At a US reseller the Lite base costs $1.06 (eight cameras free), the Plus base $2,084 and the Professional base $5,755. Each added camera is $126 on Lite or Plus and $202 on Professional. Software assurance (SMA) for upgrades is a separate yearly line.

01 The short answer

One base package per system, one expansion per extra camera.

Every BVMS edition includes eight cameras in its base license. The edition sets the base price, the camera price and the ceiling.

Bosch Video Management System, BVMS, is sold as an e-license in four editions: Lite, Plus, Professional and Enterprise. You buy one base license for the management server, which already covers eight camera or decoder channels and a set number of workstations, then one camera expansion license for every camera beyond those eight. Bosch does not publish a price list, so the figures on this page come from Network Camera Store, a US reseller that lists every BVMS part number with a price.

The second line on a BVMS quote is software assurance. Bosch calls the yearly part an SMA license, and you buy one for the base and one for each camera expansion, per year. Skip it and the system keeps recording, but you cannot install a BVMS version released after your SMA end date.

For fifteen cameras on your own server the licenses come to $883.06 on Lite, $2,966 on Plus and $7,169 on Professional. Five years of SMA adds $1,418.65, $1,908.65 or $4,595.

BVMS licenses are activated against the management server through Bosch Remote Portal, so the server, the cameras and the workstations are counted together.

Each part also exists as an FM version, which reseller listings describe as free maintenance: MBV-XCHANLIT-FM $244, MBV-XCHANPLU-FM $247 and MBV-XCHANPRO-FM $395, roughly double the plain part. The Enterprise base with free maintenance, MBV-BENT-FM, is listed at $13,563 and shown as out of stock. Older BVMS 10 parts ending in -100 or -101 are discontinued, so a quote that still carries them is out of date.

The Lite base at $1.06 is not a typo. The BVMS Lite 13.1 datasheet calls the edition free of charge up to eight cameras, and the reseller passes on a token price. If your recorder is a Bosch DIVAR IP all-in-one, licensing works differently, with its own 32 channel packs. Our DIVAR IP all-in-one price post prices those boxes and packs.

Fifteen cameras at the reseller prices above. The last bar is not a recording license; it is our yearly alert layer, shown because many sites price licenses to fix alerts.

Lite fits a single building under 42 cameras, and it is the cheapest by a wide margin. Plus is the step for sites that will pass 42 cameras or need more than five operator stations. Professional is for 256 cameras and up, or for a site that needs up to 100 workstations on one server. Enterprise sits above all three: it ties several Lite, Plus, Professional or DIVAR IP systems together under one login, up to 200,000 cameras and 10,000 per operator, and is priced through the subsystem expansions in the table above.

Bosch's BVMS licensing white paper gives the counting rule with an example: a Professional system with 100 cameras (the base plus 92 expansions) and 5 extra workstations covered for 3 years needs 3 MBV-MPRO, 276 MBV-MCHANPRO and 15 MBV-MWSTPRO. The eight cameras inside the base are covered by the base SMA, so you never pay camera SMA on them. The SMA end date is set when you activate the order in Bosch Remote Portal, from the number of years ordered.

The end date is what controls upgrades. Bosch's knowledge base says the SMA end date must cover the release date of the BVMS version you want, otherwise the upgrade is refused. With an expired SMA you can still move to any version released before it ran out, and you can buy one or more years to catch up. Bosch also notes that BVMS Lite is not covered by its free Assurance GO support level, so professional support on Lite is an Assurance PRO purchase.

Two things move the total more than the edition. Workstations: Lite includes two, Plus and Professional five, and each extra operator seat is another expansion with its own SMA. And the upgrade schedule: a site that buys no SMA pays nothing after year one, but it is stuck on its current BVMS version until it buys assurance again. For a side by side with DW Spectrum, Wisenet WAVE, AXIS Camera Station and exacqVision on the same per camera basis, see the video management software comparison.

06 If the real problem is alerts

BVMS licenses record your cameras. They do not classify the motion.

Many BVMS sites price more licenses or an edition upgrade because motion alarms on older or third party cameras are noise. A license will not change that.

Stays on BVMS

Recording on VRM, the Operator Client, alarm management, maps, and every base, expansion and SMA license you own.

Added beside it

Where alerts go

Email, Slack or a webhook with a cropped still. The Operate tier keeps 30 days of events for 5 users.

What it costs

$888 a year for 15 cameras, $2,988 a year for 60, published on our pricing page. No hardware.

BVMS is ONVIF Profile S, G and T certified, so it records third party cameras and receives their events, but the analytics BVMS shows come from the camera itself. A Bosch camera with built in video analytics sends classified events; an older or third party camera sends whatever its motion detector decides. MotionDetection reads the RTSP stream of each camera, the same stream BVMS records, and nothing is installed on the BVMS server. If you are weighing new AI hardware instead, the AI NVR software comparison prices that route.

07 Ordering

How to order BVMS licenses without overpaying.

  1. 1

    Count channels and seats

Every camera and every decoder output takes a channel. Subtract the eight in the base, then count operator workstations against the two or five included.

  2. 2

    Pick the edition by ceiling

Under 42 cameras and 5 workstations, Lite costs a fraction of Plus. Plan the edition for where the site will be in three years, since moving up means a new base.

  3. 3

    Decide the SMA term now

SMA ordered with the licenses sets the end date from activation. Order the years you expect to upgrade through, rather than catching up later.

  4. 4

Check the part numbers on the quote

Ask for BVMS 11 and later parts, not -100 or -101 parts, and compare FM parts with plain parts plus SMA for the same term.

One more thing to know before you call a dealer. Bosch's video, access, intrusion and communication product business moved to Triton on July 1, 2025 as Keenfinity Group, and the video unit is being renamed IQSIGHT. The BVMS 13.1 datasheets still carry the BVMS name and point support questions to the Keenfinity Knowledge Base, so expect both names on quotes for a while. If you also run Avigilon or Axis sites, our Avigilon camera license cost page prices those licenses on the same basis.

08 Asked while pricing BVMS licenses

Bosch BVMS license questions buyers ask before ordering.

01

How much does a BVMS license cost?

At a US reseller in October 2026 the BVMS Lite base costs $1.06 and includes 8 cameras, the Plus base $2,084 and the Professional base $5,755, each with 8 cameras included. Every extra camera costs $126 on Lite or Plus and $202 on Professional. Yearly SMA for upgrades is extra.

02

Is BVMS Lite free?

Yes, for up to 8 cameras. The BVMS Lite 13.1 datasheet describes the edition as free of charge up to eight cameras, and the MBV-BLIT base license sells for about $1. Cameras 9 to 42 need one MBV-XCHANLIT expansion each, $126 at a US reseller.

03

What is the difference between BVMS Lite and BVMS Plus?

Lite allows 42 cameras and 5 workstations, Plus allows 256 cameras and 20 workstations. Both include 8 cameras in the base and charge $126 per added camera at a US reseller, but the Plus base costs $2,084 against $1.06 for Lite, and Plus includes 5 workstations instead of 2.

04

Do BVMS licenses expire?

No. BVMS base and camera expansion licenses are perpetual. What expires is software assurance (SMA), which sets the newest BVMS version you may install. With an expired SMA the system keeps running, and you can upgrade only to versions released before the SMA end date.

05

What is BVMS SMA?

BVMS SMA is the yearly software assurance license that keeps a system eligible for new BVMS versions. You buy one per year for the base, such as MBV-MPRO at $737, and one per camera expansion, such as MBV-MCHANPRO at $26. The eight cameras in the base need no separate SMA.

06

Does BVMS support third party cameras?

Yes. BVMS is ONVIF Profile S, G and T certified and records third party cameras, each on one camera expansion license above the 8 in the base. Analytics events come from the camera, so a third party camera without classification still sends plain motion alarms.
